| Under the direction of the Assistant Public Works Director, administers a program of rubbish, garbage, and brush collection. | |
| Essential Duties: | Plans and directs the activities of work crews engaged in the collection and disposal of solid waste. Supervises approximately 18 individuals. Sets priorities and standards of work; establishes policies, procedures and methods of operations. Designs collection routes, assembles crews, schedules work, reports on work in progress. Inspects work crews in fields and ensures proper quality of work, operation efficiency and economy. Directs and trains personnel. Receives and acts on requests for customer service, develops billing information. Administers internal safety program. Provides personnel and equipment to perform various elements of maintenance for equipment and vehicles. Maintains a variety of written records including payroll, personnel records, operational record, etc. Calculates cost of service and prepares annual budget. Participates in the preparation of specifications and acquisition of equipment. May attend and participate in staff meetings and related activities; attends workshops, conferences and classes to increase professional knowledge; serves on committees as assigned. Performs related duties and responsibilities as required. |
| Training, Experience, and/or Other Requirements: | TCEQ Class A Solid Waste License or obtain within one year of employment. Four (4) years experience in the collection and/or disposal of solid waste; one year of which must have been in supervisory capacity involving public contact and record keeping. Ability to exercise good judgment. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with city staff and the public. All City employees are required in the course and scope of their employment to provide services for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations that threaten the safety of Kingsville's citizens. City employees must be able to work immediately before, during, and/or immediately after an emergency. All positions require the following: 1) High School diploma or equivalent, 2) possession of a valid driver's license 3) satisfactory driving record and 4) proof of citizenship and/or eligibility to work in the U.S. legally. The successful applicant will be required to take and pass a pre-employment physical examination, drug screen and background investigation. |
