January 2004 Message from the President

by Don Ward

I want to express my Holiday Greetings to the TxSWANA members and friends.  I hope all were safe and we look forward to 2004 with renewed vision and hope.

The second order of business for the New Year is to personally invite all TxSWANA members, other business professionals in the solid waste industry, and anyone that would like to get involved in future or listen to the latest news in the solid waste industry, to join us at this year's annual TxSWANA Conference in Brownsville, Texas.  Please make plans to be with us during March 29th through March 31st.

There will be topics of interest to all who attend from landfill operations and regulations to equipment/fleet maintenance and hazardous response issues.  The City of Brownsville is located in south Texas with access to Gulf of Mexico activities from sport fishing to beach bathing and in close proximity to the US/Mexico Border where numerous activities await.  Highlights in and around Brownsville include golf courses, the Gladys Porter Zoo and a wonderful tropical climate.  Bring your family and plan the year's spring break around your TxSWANA Conference event.

In addition to this event there are two other events, which come up early in this year's calendar.  The first is the SWANA Landfill Gas Symposium in San Antonio being held March 22nd through the 25th.  This is always a great opportunity to learn about the latest in all aspects of landfill gas operations, new technology and current/changing regulations.  Then on June 5th be prepared to attend TxSWANA's annual Road-E-O in Wichita Falls.

I would also like to recognize our newest Director on the TxSWANA Board; she is Rebecca Huber, Solid Waste Director with the City of Waco.  In her first year as a TxSWANA member she hosted a bery successful Road-E-O event in Waco.  Welcome aboard!
